THREE ATTRIBUTES I WISH I HAD LEARNT FROM MY FATHER - Part 2
Ironically, the very touching and humbling response I received on the first of the 3 posts I intended to write about my father, made me hesitate for weeks before I could write this second one.
The only reason I finally decide to write is that we often ignore and not appreciate enough the ordinary heroes who live amongst us. Not every hero has to be a Nelson Mandela or mOther Teresa. Parents who, within their limited resources, try to do the best for their children and try to make them good human beings, are equally great heroes. The purpose of writing this trilogy is to acknowledge such ordinary heroes.
I would also encourage my family and friends to write about what they have learnt from their parents and share them especially with their children. I remember that on the most touching moments for me was when my eldest daughter typed and printed one of my father's quotes that I had told her and hung it on her study table. There is a beautiful Maori saying that it takes a village to raise a child. I will just add that it takes a few generations to raise a child properly.
