ISLAM AND THE WEST - 122
BUKHL (بخل) (MISERLINESS, STINGINESS) AND ISRAAF (اسراف) (SPENDTHRIFTINESS)
(Before learning about Bukhl and Israaf it is important to understand that in Islam all wealth belongs to Allah Ta’ala. It has been given to individuals to use but they have not been given complete control over it. What it means is that individuals are not allowed to earn their wealth whichever way they want to earn it, they are only allowed to earn it through Halal (lawful) means. Similarly, individuals are not allowed to spend their wealth whichever they want to spend, they are only allowed to spend it where it is permissible to do so. In fact, people are not even allowed to give away their entire wealth in charity if it would leave their dependents poor and financially destitute. Contravention of both these rules constitutes a sin.)
