AL-BAQARAH (The Cow) - 9

“And when it is said to them, ‘Believe as people have believed’… (2:13)

According to the consensus of commentators, the Arabic word ‘Nas’ الناس (people) in this verse refers to the blessed Companions (Sahabah) of the Holy Prophet  because it is just these 'people' who had embraced the Faith and had accepted the Holy Qur'an as the word of Allah while it was being revealed. So, the verse indicates that the only kind of ‘Iman’ (faith) acceptable to Allah is the one which should be similar to that of the blessed Companions.

(This should serve as a warning to those people today who come up with new beliefs or practices which were never believed or practiced by the Sahaba and then claim these to be part of Islam, but the verse quoted above clearly tells us that only those beliefs and practices in Deen are acceptable to Allah Ta’ala which are in line with those of the Sahabah.)
