A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO PRACTICING RELIGION - PART 21

The story is of Hazrat Thanvi RE. I read it quite a while ago and am quoting here from memory so may Allah forgive any unintended mistakes. He spent all his life mentoring people in the ways of religious knowledge and self-improvement. After his terminal illness had begun, one day he asked to meet someone to explain a point of religion. His nephew, who he had raised as an adopted child, said, “Hazrat. You have spent all your life in teaching and educating people. There is hardly anything you haven’t taught people about. You are so sick now. Why don’t you just lie down and rest?” Hazrat Thanvi kept listening quietly and then replied, “You are right, but what is the use of having those moments of life which are not spent in helping other people?”

I wish this sentiment expressed by him becomes a guiding principle of all our lives. Aameen.
