TAKABBUR AND ITS TREATMENT - 7

 In reply to this question Hazrat Thanvi (may Allah bless him) has said;

“It is not Takabbur to think of oneself as better at something than others, it is Takabbur to think of oneself as superior to others.”

It means that if a person thinks that Alhamdulillah (all praise be to Allah) I have more money, more knowledge, better health, or greater wealth than some other people by the grace of Allah Ta’ala, then it is not Takabbur in itself. Takabbur is, that one starts believing that because I have more knowledge or greater wealth than others, I am superior to other human beings. But because thinking too much about one’s greater wealth or knowledge can also lead to Takabbur, Hazrat Thanvi RE has told us its treatment that we should keep reminding ourselves that even though I may have more wealth or knowledge than someone else, but it is quite possible that the other person is closer to and better in Allah Ta’ala’s estimation than I am.
