RECTIFYING UNDESIRABLE MENTAL ATTRIBUTES: 20 (talk by Mufti Taqi Usmani DB)

 BUKHL (MISERLINESS, STINGINESS) (بخل) IS AN ILLNESS OF THE SOUL

 

Similarly, Bukhl is also an illness of the soul. In the Noble Qur’an, Allah Ta’ala says;

 

“Avarice (materialism) is made to be present in human souls.” (4:128)

 

It means that Allah Ta’ala has put love of material world in people’s souls. That is why most human beings have some degree of love for wealth. As long as this Bukhl does not interfere with that person carrying out his obligations under Shariah, and it does not lead to him engaging in acts which are Haraam, undesirable, or against consideration of other people’s feelings, then it is not deplorable. On the other hand, if a person does not pay Zakat, or does not give his wife and children reasonable living expenses, or does not give Sadaqah in Allah Ta’ala’s way, then this degree of Bukhl is in some circumstances Haraam, and in some instances not Haraam but certainly not desirable.

  Alhamdulillah the second volume of the collection of translations of Mufti Taqi Usmani sahib's (DB) talks is now ready. Because of the Covid situation around the world I decide to just publish it as an e-book at this time. However, there is no restriction on anyone who wants to publish it in print and may want to distribute it. My first and foremost thanks and gratitude to Mufti Taqi Usmani sahib himself.   Seek forgiveness from all your acquaintances   The next question is, who to seek forgiveness from? Who remembers how many people’s  Gheebat  we committed throughout our lives when we were completely neglectful about it? Should we draw up a list of all of them and ask all of them for forgiveness? Hadhrat Mufti Muhammad Shafi (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say that Paradise is not cheap. If you really want to go to Paradise then you will have to make some effort for it.
